Multi-week trip to Bolivia, and Alpenglow delivered well above my expectations. Great communication, logistics, safety, and food (most important?). The trip was everything I hoped for, and any changes were well managed and only made the team stronger. Great guides, hopefully friends for life, and memories you can’t put a price tag on. Will I work with Alpenglow again on future expeditions and adventures? Absolutely…. and you should too.
I booked a 3-day climb on Mount Shasta with a friend. Our guide, Mike Pond, was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Mike went above and beyond; he kept us safe, motivated us to make it to the summit, answered all of our questions, and provided a lot of additional technique/training along the way. I highly recommend booking a local (or international) expedition through Alpenglow! And if possible, see if Mike is available to be your guide. You will not be disappointed!!
Our family of five did a half-day climbing class at Donner Pass with Jared, and it was an amazing experience. Our kids (age 15, 13, and 10) only had experience at a climbing gym previously, and he taught us what we needed to know to take our eager climbers to the next level. Jared outfitted us with gear and taught us the basics of tying in and belaying. He set up several ropes to let us each try multiple climbs, teaching us techniques and skills at we went. He tailored the experience to each of our needs and was a great teacher. I highly recommend this for families! And Jared was amazing!
Alpenglow is top notch! I wanted to learn the basics of ice climbing, and even though they don’t officially offer the course, they lined me up with a excellent guide Mike Pond. Mike was patient with all my questions and very professional. He taught me lots of technique and lead me to some amazing ice! Highly recommended!
We did a 2-hour Via Ferrata tour in Tahoe with our 2 kiddos (ages 7+9) and it was fantastic! Our guide Mic did an amazing job helping & accommodating our smaller 7 yo. It was a highlight of our Tahoe vacation & the perfect amount of "epic". Highly recommend a trip with Alpenglow!
Overall, a great experience. We took a 2 hour private tour for our family of 5. The whole family had a great time. Our guide Isaac was excellent. He was friendly, informative, and helpful along each step. Some of us are afraid of heights, but had no problems at all with the course. Our youngest is 8 and she was able to do the course without issue. We had so much fun, that we're considering taking a longer course next time.
I chose Alpenglow bc my IFMGA guide friend who I go to Europe w knows Adrian, Alpenglow has a solid reputation, and they have permits for the area we were targeting for our trip. Worked w Amy Olson for 2d of kids rock camp + 2 half-day private w Dustin Swanson, both super positive, engaging professionals that had the right balance of priorities across safety, learning, and fun. Kids enjoyed the Via Ferrata at Palisades at rock camp, and I was happy to see them send their first multi-pitch and crack climb w Dustin in the private. For skiing and other activities we usually ask which they prefer “private” or “group”; Usually they choose one. This time they said politically “they were both great”. I do believe that. I’ve done a fair bit of guided climbing trips myself across NA and Europe since 2008, so I do view myself as having a bit of an opinion as well as the background to evaluate. Hope they can share their experience w more future senders.
I booked a 3-hr Via Ferrata Tour for my friend and myself at Olympic Valley, CA (Tahoe area). Tim Mincey was our guide. We lucked out and were the only two people on the tour at the time that we booked so we got a private tour! Tim was the best guide and took the most amazing pictures of our climb!!! Gearing up for the climb was easy. I highly recommend purchasing the gloves and rent the shoes if you don’t have hiking shoes/boots or shoes with really good grip. We went at a great pace and took breaks when needed. I will definitely do this again and will do the 4-hr tour so I can climb to the top! Such a fun experience!!!!
